In the North American court system, a defendant is assumed innocent until proven guilty. In an ideal world, we would expect that the truly innocent will always go free, whereas the truly guilty ones will always be convicted; BUT, we have to consider those Type I and Type II statistical possibilities. Now, let us tackle the following questions? What would a TYPE 1 error mean? Â How about a TYPE 2 error. Â What do these error types mean in this judicial sense? Why is Justice Blind? Do some research and find a study, report/article that statistically analyses innocent/guilty verdicts (e.g., their cases)In statistics we deal with data and we have "outliers". Â In trials lawyers present "evidence" which in a way is data. Just as some outlying data is discarded, so is some evidence. Thinking critically, why for example might the following evidence (data) be discarded:Eye witness Smart phone video Fingerprints DNA Anything else you can think of?
