PAPER
Project Statement Background The case organisation, Mc Donald’s, is a well- known establishment which was originated in California, USA in the year 1954, and has become one of the most recognised and reputable brands in the world. Mc Donald’s has achieved in establishing more than thirty thousand (30,0000 franchising stores in over 120 countries worldwide, and is serving more than 50 million people each and every day. Thus, steadily generating profits over 15 billion dollars on an annual basis. Mc Donald’s mission statement includes “Mc Donald’s brand mission is to be our customers’ favourite pace and way to eat and drink” and additionally, their vision is to be the world’s best quick service restaurant experience. Being the best means providing outstanding quality, service, cleanliness, and value, so that they can make every customer in every restaurant smile.
Project Topic
Strategy can be defined as one which sets the direction of the company for the foreseeable future as it negotiates its pathway through the external environment with all its competitive and market influences and potential for good fortune and tragedy alike (Thompson et al, 2016). The five main generic strategies to choose from include competitive advantage, cost leadership strategy, differentiation strategy, focus strategy, and integrated cost leadership differentiation strategy. The strategy that is chosen for this case study would be using the competitive advantage strategy for the organization to be deemed more successful than it already is. The main issue over the years at Mc Donald’s would be having to compete against their competitors, not on a static but rather on a dynamic level. There main competitors are fast food opponents such as Wendy’s and Taco Bell. With these franchises flooding the market, it becomes problematic when trying to gain market share thus, in some countries, the entity was left no other choice but to terminate some of their direct branches (non-franchise) due to an increase in competition. Thus, the result due to its heavy competitors in the market can cause the establishment great loss of assets, a deterioration of income, as well as a decline in customer demand. Therefore, the main challenge currently faced at Mc Donald’s, would be to find a reasonable competitive strategy to implement for the company to remain ahead in the market for years to come.
