This week described early Christianity and the later rise of Islam. Both these Western religions have similar beginnings, but the differences in these two faiths are evident through their artistic traditions. 

Compare and contrast the architectural styles and structure of the early church versus that of the mosque. How do these structures reflect the social and religious functions of each faith? Use examples to support your response.

Compare and contrast an early Christian artwork with a Roman work focusing on issues of style. What stylistic elements are new, what remain the same? (Think about naturalism specifically. What changes do we see in figural scale and proportion? Landscape? Lighting? Etc.)
