Art History Paper

The second paper (12-15 double-spaced typewritten pages of text) with the full apparatus of documentation, including footnotes, bibliography and good-quality, captioned illustrations will be an expanded, revised, and more thoroughly researched version of the first paper in response to our constructive criticisms, instructional advice and suggestions for further research in primary and secondary sources. Depending upon the results or evaluation of the first paper, you also may be able to strengthen your research by considering additional, related artworks. 

 Your papers should demonstrate your ability to analyze artworks visually in terms of materials, form, composition and subject matter. Depending upon the work(s) you choose to discuss, you may need to consider verbal/visual, word/image relationships. In order to interpret the historical, cultural meanings of artworks, you must to read scholarly literature on your topic and investigate primary sources, i.e., contemporaneous reviews, letters, articles and books that throw light upon the various artworks’ production and reception.
