In lecture 1, the key slide is Page 4, showing the inputs, outputs, controllable and uncontrollable factors. ALL factors have to be controlled DURING an experiment. The goal of DOE (Design of Experiments) is to find the right settings for the CONTROLLABLE factors that minimize the effects of the UNCONTROLLABLE factors after the experiment is complete.
TO DO:
- Read Lecture 1, paying particular attention to slide 4
- For the golf experiment, and the list of factors on slide 9, characterize each factor for yourself as controllable or uncontrollable. Discuss why you designated each factor the way you did. (for example, is the use of a riding cart controllable or uncontrollable, and why?
