3 questions

1. How do YOU view mathematics? What are your memories of math in elementary school, middle school, high school, college? How do you view the use of math in daily existence? How do your "feel" about math?

 2. Rolling the Dice-see Course Documents for a printable copy of the Roll the Dice board. (If you don't have a couple of dice you could make a pair by folding a paper cube, using sugar cubes, small blocks of wood or ???? )  After playing the game a few times (if you don't have a friend or family member to play with you, play your right hand against your left-:)) , write advice to a friend who is new to the game (rolling the dice). Tell him or her your best strategy for placing the counters on the game board,and explain   why you believe this strategy is a good one. (1-2 paragraphs)

  3. The following problem was left as a clue to a mysterious puzzle. Complete the puzzle to get a number (follow the steps in order). What might the number represent?

Ø                 There is a 1 in the thousands place.

Ø                The digit in the tens place is 9 times the digit in the thousands place.

Ø                 Multiply the digit in the thousands place by 2.

Ø                The digit in the ones place is a hand without a thumb.

Ø                 The digit in the hundreds place is 2 less than the number in the tens.
