Regardless of the topic you choose, your writing should contain the following parts:

  1. An introduction: Telling the      reader what the essay is about and a brief overview of the different      components of the essay. This part is critical to capture the interest of      the reader.
  2. A descriptive section: Apply      microeconomic tools and materials discussed in class to help the reader      understand the topic. It might be helpful to consider that your audience      has not taken this course. Feel free to include graphs, references, figures,      tables, etc. However, the length of the essay should be adjusted      accordingly.
  3. A historical analysis: Give the      reader a historical perspective and context for your topic. For example,      is this a new phenomenon? Have public perceptions on the topic changed?      How has the study of the topic evolved over time, or what are the most      modern applications of the topic?
  4. Government involvement: Describe      the role that government has played in the topic or the lack of      involvement. Has the level of government involvement changed over time? Is      this good or bad, and why?
  5. Applicability: How is the topic      you chose relevant to your daily life as a student at the university and why is      important for the reader to understand the topic?
  6. Conclusion: Summarize briefly the      writing assignment by reminding the reader about the project’s components      and the main ideas.

TOPICS (Choose one):

The essay should be at least 2 pages long (excluding the cover page, quotes, graphs, pictures, references list, etc.), single-spaced. Use only one space between sections and use 12 point font size with 1 inch margins on all sides. Failure to follow these guidelines will result in a significant grade reduction.
