Importance of developmental assessment of children and adolescents
The method of mapping a child is the developmental evaluation compared to children and
adolescents of similar age, results. A representative sample of the population from which the
child comes is used for the comparison category. Various factors contribute to the success of
various population groups. It can be difficult in a multicultural society to find acceptable
standards.
In order to evaluate the progress of a child in different fields, a typical psychometric assessment
is used (Grisso, Vincent & Seagrave, 2005). Development assessment will benefit both parents
and teachers tremendously. It provides children and adolescents with the main features that
enable them to have proper management strategies and life skills courses designed to improve
their child's developmental potential.
Developmental assessments will aid in the diagnosis of a child's condition, whether in learning or
in operating in diverse spheres. The outcome can be used for meeting the needs of the child
through public financing and school funds.
Assessment instruments
To pick an evaluation tool you need to determine whether to use an interview format or an
assessment scale. Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Assessment (CAPA) and Preschool Age
Psychiatric Assessment (PAPA) can be adopted as assessment tools. This is the only interview-
based test that children less than school age can use (Sosna & Mastergeorge, 2005). The BASC-2
is the best choice and the best all round option for a ranking evaluation. The benefits of the
BASC-2, as defined for the BESS have been similar. Moreover, some benefits from interview
evaluations come from the BASC-2 (other rating scales also have some, though not all of these
advantages). They are more time-efficient, requires less administration preparation, are also more
accessible, obtain information from teachers or childcare providers, and are often valid for
reporting difficulties.
Treatment options
Play and Talk Therapy are two treatment strategies, which can be used for children and
adolescents, but cannot be used for adults. Play therapy should be personalized to the client,
since young children play differently than young adults. The idea of play therapy is to allow
clients to sit back and express themselves more easily than they do in conventional therapies.
Talk Counseling supports children and youth who have endured trauma, including physical
violence, sexual abuse or a loved one's death. The provider helps a child to identify the trauma
and the therapist then concentrates on the child's reaction to the incident (Sadock, Sadock &
Ruiz, 2014).
The role parents play in assessment and treatment
For a complete assessment of a child, an interview with each parent and information on the
functioning of the child in a range of environments is necessary (e.g., home, neighborhood,
school, or church). Parents are subject to bias, as do all reporters, in supplying their child with
information. It is therefore necessary to determine both the parent's information and the capacity
of the parent to provide accurate and reliable information.
