1. After completing the Test Your Self-Esteem Activity in McGraw-Hill Connect®, what does your score
say about your level of self-esteem? Is it high or low? Look back at the effects of high and low self-
esteem described on p.128 in Ch. 4 of Psychology of Success. Which of the behaviors do you exhibit?
Give examples.
According to self-esteem activity, my level of self-esteem is high. I am a confident individual when it
comes to trying new activities. I focus on my inner skills and capabilities which motivate me and boost
my confidence. Before taking up any new task, I try to analyze it in a thorough manner so that I will get a
clear idea about what is expected of me. Such an approach plays an integral role to boost my self-
esteem. i
My high-self-esteem plays a vital role to mold my attitude towards the day to day activities. It also
influences how enthusiastically I take up new challenges. The Self-Esteem Activity in McGraw-Hill
Connect helped me to realize that my strong belief in me and self-esteem are my core strengths which
help me to move forward and succeed in various kinds of activities. My behavior relating to the thorough
analysis of situations plays a key role to boost my self-esteem.

After completing the Social Support and Self-Esteem Activity in McGraw-Hill Connect, I feel that I have
the emotional and instrumental support which one requires to move forward in life. The main individuals
who offer me support when I need it the most include my parents, faculty members, and friends. They
act as my backbone and make sure that they are always there for me when I need them the most. They
help me emotionally and psychologically. There are times when I feel vulnerable but they ensure that I
do not lose faith in me and move forward in my life. They are my ultimate social support network who
never lose trust in me. In fact, they motivate me to take up new challenges and walk on the unexplored
path so that I can be proud of myself. They act as the catalyst which encourages and motivates me to
move towards success.
3. What did completing the Are You a Positive Thinker? Activity in McGraw-Hill Connect® reveal about
your ability to think positively? Explain. What can you do to improve your positive thinking? Review p.
189 in Ch. 5 of Psychology of Success for ideas.
After completing the ‘Are You a Positive Thinker?’ Activity in McGraw-Hill Connect I realized that I am a
very positive and optimistic individual. I try to look at the bright side even when a situation is unfavorable
in nature. But at the same time, I try to think and focus on things in a practical manner so that I can get a
clear picture of the real scenario. One of the key reasons for my positive thinking is my high level of
awareness. Even when I see that a situation is not going in my favor, I try to turn it around so that there
will be something positive for me. For instance, when I make errors, I try to learn from them so that I will
not be repeating them in the future. In order o improve positive thinking, one can engage in uplifting
conversations with oneself and avoid all sorts of negativity.
4. After completing this week’s activities in McGraw-Hill Connect®, which do you believe is more
valuable: self-esteem or self-acceptance? Why? Remember, self-esteem is confidence in and respect
for yourself and self-acceptance means recognizing and accepting what is true about yourself.

After completing the week’s activities in McGraw-Hill Connect, I believe that self-acceptance is more
important than self-esteem. Self-acceptance basically helps a person to know the reality. It helps to not
only focus on one’s strengths but also be aware of one’s weaknesses that need to be addressed in the
most efficient manner. I have realized that one can have self-esteem only if he or she has self-
acceptance in life. Without self-acceptance, self-esteem is completely hollow and baseless.
Self-acceptance allows a person to acknowledge what he has in the current times. It acts as the ground
level which ultimately helps to create confidence and self-belief that is based on authenticity and
genuineness. Self-acceptance is vital in each and every individual’s life as it helps to get clarity about a
situation or about one-self. It is of paramount importance as it not only sheds light on success but it also
highlights one’s mistakes and weaknesses.
