When I think of a great leader a lot of people come to mind but currently in my life now I
would say my boss is a great leader. She always takes the time out to help everybody in the
store. A lot of times you see managers of convenience stores just doing management stuff
my boss actually gets out run runs a register does the cleaning cooks food more need help.
She has a lot of traits that I look up to you and I am learning from because I am taking over
a new store soon as a manager myself. One great trait I think she has passed onto me it’s too
has compassion for the employees. Understanding that things come up in peoples lives
where they’re unable to work shows that you care. I’ve had a few bosses in the past that
were great leavers however I think the majority of the great leaders I recognize our female.
I’m not sure if that’s because I can’t relate to them on a personal level or if it’s just that a lot
of then boxes are arrogant. Well honestly, I would have to say my better half. Tall, dark &
handsome. His personality is calming and makes you feel secure at any moment your in.
Very smart and knows how to get things done. Everyone else admired him for the same
reasons as I admire him for just more than that. I too of being strong & smart he’s serious
and means what he says, makes you want to excel.
Any time I have worked I didn’t get to spend time with whomever the leaders were, as I
worked in areas where you aren’t unsupervised. The people I have met in that time who
were considered the leader embezzled and played with the time clocks, others weren’t so
friendly so I basically stayed away and just did my job. Eventually they were found out fired
and I would believe fined for their wrong doings, I’m not exactly sure what all happened,
but some people get away with those types of behaviors. I see narcissistic people all the time
and most of them are successful, sad to say. recently watched a documentary about the
company I work for, Abercrombie and Fitch. It talks about the rise and fall of the company
over the old CEO, Mike Jeffries, and all of the issues that he caused with the decisions he
made. He was known for wanting the brand to have an air of exclusivity. He wanted his
brand to be worn by the "cool" kids and they had a very all American type look. These
actions definitely were consistent with narcissism and these helped his career at first and
then later hindered his success once people started to complain about the work environment
and the merchandising in stores. After his downfall, Fran Horowitz took over and she has
grown the company to new heights. She has a completely different mindset and continues to
grow the company with her decisions. She carried us through the pandemic and provided
financial help during that hard time. There was definitely a shift when the leadership came.
Now it is all about diversity and inclusion and being a team. A great leader I look up to was
my father. Even though he was stern , wanted everything in order. He taught me the
foundations on how to run a successful business. What type of people you want to surround
yourself to be successful. Always willing to go the extra mile and being on top and your
word is all you have so honoring your word was a very important piece.
I have been able to work with a male and female who has great leadership and perfect traits.
I cannot say personally there was a different in how they approach thing because there
precise alone made everyone wanna give there all and be on track. They knew how to adapt
tp any situation and always tried to plan ahead to make sure the things that needed to get
done did. Also they where always able to handle the difficult conversation and direct the
negative tension out and doing what was best for the company.
there are four functions of management—planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. We
discussed the foundations of management. We explored the historical perspective of how
management has evolved as well. This gives us the knowledge to continuously monitor the
organization’s external and internal environment and adjust our management strategy to
reflect new realities. Of course, it is important to maintain an ethical, socially responsible
organization. We reflected on how managers use specific skill sets to drive the organization
towards meeting these goals and objectives.
Michelle Obama is one of the people I admire as a wonderful leader. I believe she is
intelligent, a kind person, and able to connect with others. When I listened to some of her
talks, I could see she knew what she was talking about, and the way she expressed her
emotions made us believe in her and trust that she wanted to help and guide us to better
answers for every topic she discussed.
I've worked under the supervision of both male and female managers; I've been very
fortunate to have worked with all of them; I've learned a lot from each of them and admire
them. It was easier for me to connect with my female supervisors because I could talk to
them about not only work-related issues but also personal issues; currently, I'm working
under a male supervisor whom I admire and who is very professional. I don't talk to him
much about anything other than work, but whenever I need time off for personal reasons, he
shows how much he cares about his staff and is always supportive.
When the market for houses was high, many realtors were working with clients , making
them available to purchase even though they couldn't afford them; I knew a realtor who was
doing it and tried to recruit my husband to join his team; after seeing how dishonest this
person was with his clients, my husband refused his offer; this realtor was trying to do
anything to get his big bonus; I believe in Karma, not that I wish anything bad for anyone,
but when the economy crashed, he lost his two properties, and he and his family had to
change their way of life because he could no longer afford it. I can think of so many leaders
that I've worked with. The two leaders that come to mind first will be during my freshman
year in High School. The wonderful teacher was my physical science teacher. Mr. Hunt
never made his class boring, never gave the easy road out and he didn't make things hard.
When this teacher notices a little struggle, he always gives encouraging words to help
motivate you to make his struggling students build more courage to earn a good grade. I was
one that didn't finish a semester with a passing grade. The moral to that story is he knew I
was going to come back and pass his class with my head held high.
As time passed by my very first job was a bittersweet moment. This will be my last year in
High School. I worked at Ulta Cosmetics. The manager at the time was a female. I can't
recall her name but I learned a valuable lesson as she was my leader she was very humble
but, I was let go from my position without any warnings. This manager wasn't a person that
was difficult to get along with but, wasn't clear about why I had to be let go of my job. I
didn't build any anger but, this taught me a lesson on how I will want to be a better leader to
avoid leaving someone the question of why.
The difference between these two leaders although one was an academic leader was the care
that Mr. Hunt had for all his students to strive for success and there weren't any encouraging
words from the leader I had at work. The reason I brought that particular leader into my
equation is that things weren't all bad but the professionalism wasn't there for me. To better
describe her is quiet, glamorous, and conservated not much of a people person, and my
personality was blended to all kinds of races and nationalities. Someone I see as a great
leader,is my current boss. She is the principal of our elementary school so as we call her, she
is the top dog of the school. She not only have all of the staff she has to be a leader for and
watch out for, but she also has three hundred plus students she has to be a leader for. She is
kind, compassionate, respectful. She knows when she needs to be firm with an employee or
student. She also knows how to make someones day. She feels if she is sitting her in office,
she isn't doing her job. Her job is to be around the school, interacting with the staff and
students, joining them at lunch and recess. I feel that female leaders have more compassion
towards their employees, where male leaders are more of a lets do this and get it done kind
of thing. A time I saw the "dark side" traits in a leader was at a previous job, one of the
managers thought it was her way or no way. Would use things against us, if something
broke down, she would blame it on the shift so she didn't have to take responsibility for it.
We would receive complements or even tips in our tip jar, and she would take them for
herself. During our shift, she would hid out in the managers office and not come back out
until it was closing time. We were basically on our own for our shift. She always had an
excuse on why she was in the office during our shifts so whenever we would tell the other
managers about it they wouldn't believe us. Needless to say I did not stay there long. It is
difficult to select just one great leader out of the many that I have either met or learned about
throughout my life. I have both men and women I look up to and respect greatly, but to
narrow it down to just one is hard. One that has always and will always stand out to me is,
as cliche as it sounds, my dad. He was a single father of two girls from a very young age
until adulthood, he did his best to teach us to be responsible and ethical in all out
interpersonal relationships. To be women of integrity and independence. His lessons to his
daughters are some that we will carry forever and pass on down through generations to
come.Working in both the automotive and construction industries has given me plenty of
examples of both male and female management. One thing that is probably the most
common difference between male and female managers is the understanding of personal
problems affecting professional life. Women seem to be more understanding where as men
tend to lean more towards, 'leave your personal stuff at the door, you're here to work.' That's
not always the case however, and I've had men be more understanding than women.
From personal experience i worked at a car detailing place where a male owner and male
manger owned the place. They were extremely strict on their scheduling and were not very
understanding when it came to personal emergency or problems. But we had a good success
rate the way they were doing things. shortly into me being hired they switched management
to a female manager. Although she did well with customers and making money. she was a
little too lenient when it came to understanding peoples personal emergencies. As well as a
little too lenient on the rules that were set. There was a clear difference in management. I
also feel females are more creative when it comes to making the work environment "fun" for
everyone.I worked for a cleaning lady who was just starting her business and she was
extremely rude and just a horrible manager/owner to work for. In front of her workers she
would talk bad about them to the clients and if anything was to go wrong in a home she
would blame it on her workers. She was not a good person to work for and eventually all her
employees quit on her. The great leaders that come to my mind first are the founding fathers.
I would like to think that they had all the necessary traits needed in order to go from thirteen
separate colonies to the thriving country that we live in today. I work in the high voltage
industry and have had both female and male leaders. I have noticed that the female
leadership usually seems to be a better boss to have when you are having personal problems
that affect your ability to do your job. As far as working in this industry you can find several
crew members and leaders that have display dark side traits. It is very easy to be more
worried about looking better than the rest of the crew and neglecting teaching the younger
employees because you view them as your competition.
