No, I wouldn’t like to follow a Theory Y perspective in a work environment. Simply
because many times people can think they know what’s best for them and it never seems to
work out that way. In my experience in the work environment, people need to be told not
necessarily what to do or how to do it. They need reassurance that the job description inn
which they had applied for or are assigned to is being done correctly. When people are
starting off at a lower end of a company, they tend to need the experience and the
experience of being told what to do is the reasoning behind them moving up in the
company through perfecting their area of expertise. Yes, Theory Y promotes self-growth
and creativity, but I have witnessed people be creative while being told what it is to do. If I
had to choose between working for a company that focuses on theory X or theory y I think
I would always choose a theory y. I came to this conclusion because after learning about
which theory is what I prefer to work somewhere that I am not watched by every move I
make. Now I know that sometimes companies have to do this especially for employees that
are slackers but if you’re doing your job correctly and getting everything done then I don’t
see why you would have to be watched over. I have worked for companies that follow both
theories. It was hard when I was being watched all day every day it made the work
environment more tense. Everybody knew that they were being watched so therefore yes
the work got done and got done correctly but it was more of a hostile work environment
than one with more relaxed rules and faith in their employees. if I’m doing all of my work
correctly in a timely manner I think I should be able to work on my own as long as that’s
part of my job description if I am not required to work in a team or a group then just let me
be and get my work done. I would like working for a company that follows people focused,
Theory Y views, of its employees. I said this because it gives employees the freedoms to
complete jobs duties at a peaceful pace. When employees are peaceful, they are more likely
to complete work duties better. Theory X makes employees stressful, and it seems like a
toxic work environment. Theory Z. a a The name came from the idea that this theory goes
beyond X & Y. It came from William Ouchie’s work to determine why Japanese
organizations were out-producing American organizations in the late 1970’s and early
1980’s. Ouchie attributed their success to factors such as long-term employment, workers
may work for a single company for much of their lives. Also, emphasis on quality
management, Japan has long been an innovator for quality systems to ensure consistency.
They are known for shared decision-making as well. Well, to start I would rather work with
people who are motivated and are willing to work just because it’s an opportunity to help
the community as well as themselves. Working in a x community you deal with more
attitude and people who aren’t as motivated or constantly complain. It brings the energy of
the environment down as well as production, because they will only do what they want at
the pace they want.In the past I have a worked with all types of management. some where
very Motivated and had high energy, but at the same time they where hiring in friends and
people who weren’t ready age wise or those who pretended to get the job.working in an x
environment would not only help a company fail, but it would also keep those who are
willing to work out.We do have groups of people who work for the money & do a good job
as well, at least from what we see and possibly hear… Now a days you never know the
intentions of anyone even your employees. I would like to work for a company that follows
Theory Y because they let their employees have freedom and trust they will get their jobs
done. I like being able to do things in my own way, not necessarily given exact directions
on how it needs to be done. I would not like to work for a company that follows Theory X
because I do not want someone looking over my shoulders all day long. I like where I am
given freedom, and if I need some help or anything I can ask for it. It make me
uncomfortable when someone is just watching me basically waiting for me to make a
mistake.
I have work for both types. When I worked for a company that follows Theory X, I didn't
last long. I need a company that appreciates is workers, and trusts them. When I worked for
a company that follows Theory Y, it was honestly one of my favourite jobs I have ever
worked at. There thing was "Be You" which means be whoever you are. As long as the
work is getting done, and done correctly, they do not care what you have to do to get it
done or who you are. If you are enjoying work then they are happy. They also gave a lot of
incentives to not only recruit more people, but keep their current employees. I prefer to
work for employers who use Theory Y systems because they trust their employees and give
them the freedom to create, which keeps them motivated to work and learn; companies
have many employees, each of whom has different perspectives and ideas from which
companies can benefit greatly; companies can achieve amazing results by not limiting
them.I dislike working for firms who employ Theory X because they monitor and control
individuals; when this happens, the work atmosphere is usually difficult; they treat people
like robots that don't care what they think and only care about getting the product/service
done.I worked for a company that used Theory X, but it had a lot to do with the type of job
I did. It was a factory that recorded video tapes, and I was part of the team that had to
prepare blocks of video recording by supplying the cassettes that needed to be recorded and
picking up the ones that had already been recorded. It was such a physically demanding job
that it had nothing to do with being creative, innovative, or learning something new. I
would say since I personally worked in only the Theory Y view I can only say I would like
that because I have not experience any other model. My employer allows their people to
take responsibility for their work and be more of a guiding hand instead of controlled is one
that trusts its people to get things done. They have allowed me to grow and gain a lot of
knowledge even with the ups and down in my experiences. In the Theory X I can say I most
like would not enjoy working it because having someone over my shoulders all day
everyday would irritate me and make me be like the rest of the crowd and not even want to
work. Although it seems like it would just make each day of work seem longer and any
work that needs to be done would feel forced. My current job runs under the Theory Y
view. I am allowed to be creative, and problem solve any situation in a great manner. Even
when i have been wrong we have amazing team and coaches to guides to the wat we want
all our suppliers to be field. I would rather work for a company that follows Theory Y
instead of Theory X. I currently work for a company that champions its' people. We put
training and development of teams in front of business because if you do not teach your
people how to run a successful business you will never be successful. An employer that
allows their people to take responsibility for their work and be more of a guiding hand
instead of controlled is one that trusts its people to get things done. It also creates a positive
work environment where people believe they can be creative and really make a difference
in day to day operations. A manager or company that follows a Theory X view would be
very overwhelming to work with for me because I would always be monitored and
controlled. I enjoy making my own choices and coming up with ideas to better the business
and company I work for. I have worked for a company that has a Theory X view and you
start to feel as if you cannot be trusted to do your job. It becomes more of a burden to go to
work and the company that I worked at with a Theory Y view made me want to be there
everyday. I feel like working for a company that follows a people-focused, theory view is a
lot better. One, the employees are capable, creative, responsible and motived to work and
learn. That is the type of person I am and I definitely want those type of people around me.
I feel like the employer has more trust in theory Y and can count on those types of
employees a lot more. Now the opposite, theory X. I feel like working with a company that
constantly needs a manager to look over you while you work is super inconvenient when
they can be doing something else. There is absolutely no trust in that worker. One of the
worst characteristics a person can have is being lazy and it says they are unwilling meaning
they don't want to learn or work and that's terrible. I would not want to work for an
employer that is theory X. I'm not sure if it is the jobs I do but I have only worked for
Theory Y managers and companies. Luckily I have been trusted and can take responsibility.
Everything runs smoother when people can be trusted and are willing to learn and work. It's
hard to motivate a lazy person to work. I would absolutely prefer to work in the Theory Y
setting because I am wanting to work harder and enjoy working for someone who thinks
their employees opinions matter. Also that they are capable of doing a job correctly without
being thought negatively about. I think being able to make decisions and also FAIL is all
part of learning in life. Theory X was described as kind of a controlling environment. They
do not put trust in their employees and they think all workers do not have the want or will
to work so they have to "make" them by being strict. Although I like structure, I do not like
controlling environments. I like to be able to think for myself and with the X theory it
shows they don't think we are capable of doing so. I have worked in places where theory Y
was presented. I enjoyed working there, there were flaws of course but It was always able
to be solved. everyone was motivated to work even on their tough days. I would prefer to
work a company that follows the Theory Y view because its employees are motivated and
responsible. That's the kind of worker I am. Theory Y employers do not micro-manage and
are lenient with control. I do not like to be micro-managed because I am ambitious. I take
pride in my work and committed to personal achievements. Theory Y employees seek
responsibility.
The Theory X view says employees are not willing to work and have no ambition. I am not
this type of employee. Theory X employees are supervised at most times because they tend
to be lazy and threatened or forced to work. The employers control their employees'
actions, and the employees avoid responsibility.I have worked for both Theory X and Y
companies. My Theory X supervisor would always micro-manage, and I did not like that at
all. Once I am given a job to do, I do it in a timely manner and at the best of my ability.
The environment at that job was negative and stressful to me.My current job runs under the
Theory Y view. I am allowed to be creative. I meet weekly with my supervisor. She gives
me my tasks for the week with the deadlines. As long as the tasks are done by the timeline,
there are no issues. I do think that I would like working for a company that is more people
focused taking the Theory Y approach. I like that the idea is to put more trust and decision
making into the hands of the employees and using less controlling means to get things
done. My current job really focuses on employee input and allowing us to make decisions
with little guidance and influence. I like that I have the opportunity to make important
decisions without having to go through management to get approval. I do not like working
in a Theory X environment. I have had a job where management would control every
aspect of what I was supposed to do. I was told how and what to do rather than asked what
I thought would be a good course of action. I understand that this type of management is
necessary for some staff that do not have the capacity to make informed decisions but this
is not what I prefer. The more menial jobs that I have had in the past seem to have more of
a Theory X management style where the further I progress in my career I have more
responsibility in decision making.
