The social Error and bias that affects me the most is "diffusion of responsibility". I
see this time and time again with this current pandemic. Children climbing all over
one another while playing at the park, people pushing each other out of the way to
grab the last role of Charmin toilet paper, etc. This current state of medical crisis
we're in requires us to social distance and to act responsibly & considerately. This for
some reason changes in largely populated areas. Fallacies are unfortunately
common and tolerated in today's world. Media plays a significant role in this. As
technology has progressed, we have become inundated with different forms of
marketing and persuasion. Social media shares ideals that can easily be perceived
as truth's by those who are less educated. Critical thinking is a vital skill, as it
provides the ability to sift through the madness that we are exposed to daily. I'm a
visual learner, so I enjoy the videos that are assigned weekly. I also found this weeks
reading assignments very interesting.
Based on the four social errors and biases I am affected by One of us/one of them. I
feel that I tend to treat people that have the same interest with more respect. I tend
to not have interaction with people that don't have the same interest. I just do not
feel that we have anything in common so I never start a conversation with them. I
feel that I should make contact with others and try to be more open minded.
One fallacies that I see in today's society is with the Politicians, you have to be
Democratic or Republican. You can not pick a politician based on what they say to
the public. We can not choose to pick both sides, public judges us for not picking one
side.
This weeks videos and reading has been interesting since it shows us how we treat
others and how we don't want to be treated so this opens our eyes. It has made me
realize that I need to make better choices when it comes to other people.
