choice for us in this moment. For me, I tend to spend a lot of time thinking about my
future and my career. I'm still young, i'm only 21 years old and i feel like i have to
make this huge decision. And if i make the wrong choice then it will destroy my life
forever. But that's just me being young and naive. A lot of people tell me "you have
plenty of time" And I don't think that helps me figure out what i want to do. If
anything that just makes it harder for me. Because then i'll just forget about it and
then stress about it again later.
I think being Open minded is a big characteristic of critical thinking. I'm very
understanding, but when i believe in what is right that's what i'm sticking with. And i
will complete respect another's opinion and understand what they think. I'm not the
type of person to just belittle someone or make someone feel less than because they
don't believe in what i believe in. Another characteristic for me is probably common
sense. I think it's important to think outside of the box but you also have to think
realistically. For example, If I had plans to stay in and do homework but a friend of
mine is like "hey let's go do something tonight" and i know there's no way i'm going
to finish my work in time, it wouldn't make sense for me to try to do both. Obviously i
would tell my friend "sorry I can't tonight" even though i really want to go out.
I think the biggest barrier of critical thinking is just being human. We all have
emotions and beliefs that sometimes stop us from being open minded or moving
forward in life. Things like anger and pride, those are just human reactions that we
all have. I think it's up to us on how we deal with it. Because only you can change
you, no one else can make you do anything. So for me when i get upset or angry,
Lately i've been working on trying to calm myself down and think through it. And it
works because we don't think when we're angry. But i've gotten a lot better with
that. Now i know how to just walk away from the situation instead of letting it get out
of hand. I can collect my thoughts and return with a clear mind to solve the problem.
I learned that we used critical thinking everyday, And that it's not just something we
use in our academic lives but in our everyday lives as well. I never realized how
much i use critical thinking throughout my day. But i use it very often and i'm sure all
of us use it often as well. I thought that was really cool to know.
