After completing the diagnostics, I really feel confident about this class. I scored pretty
high. On a few of my questions I got them wrong on the first try, but correct on the
second. A lot of the questions that was on the diagnostics was like a review from high
school. Two environmental challenges faced by society are pollution and climate change.
Pollution causes damage to crops, animals, forests, and bodies of water and climate
change impacts the world's water systems through more flooding and droughts. My
results from the "Build Your Proficiency" Diagnostic reflect an understanding about these
challenges because it lets me know that I’m aware of the important things that’s
happening in the world around us. The new information that I have learned this week
that might describe the effect of these challenges on society are that environment issues
threaten our existing patterns of social organization and thought. I think we as people
need to interact with the environment more to obtain our food, food, medicines, building
materials and many other things because things that are effecting the environment is
what’s causing cancerous diseases and other viruses.
We hear a lot about global warming and over population in the media right now.
Overpopulation can have a devastating impact on the environment. When you have large
cities that grow rapidly you will see the impacts and stain of the overpopulated areas.
You will most definitely see an increase in consumption which will cause these areas to
need to increase their resources. This increase can be anything from housing, water,
food, and services. These resources will have to come from an increase in manifacturing,
building, and expansions of current resources which will take a toll on the environment.
Global warming has also had impacts on society. Changing weather patterns due to
global warming have already had a large impact on crops, communities, and water
supply, and roads. We saw Texas just this year hit by ice storms that had the entire state
without power, food, water, sewage, inability to travel, and other resources it needed for
its residents to survive. These weather conditions will continue to get worse and cause
additional destruction as global warming gets worse.
