I recently read an article that claimed that procrastination is emotional rather than
practical. We actually have time, but when we lack confidence or a project
overwhelms us, we avoid it and do something easier or something we are confident
doing. When that happens to us in university, it's helpful to have strategies. Here are
three that have worked for me:
Make a list of everything you have to do. Number the list from the things you
most want to do to those you least want to do. Then, begin with the thing you
least want to do, working your way up to the thing you most want to do. You'll
feel better getting it out of the way, and then your day gets progressively
easier rather than harder.%
If you feel overwhelmed by the amount of things you need to do, look at the
time you have available.%Let's say you have three hours. Divide the number of
things to do by the time. So that may leave you with 20 minutes an item.
Work hard on each item for 20 minutes, then move on to the next. It always
surprises me how many items I actually complete in the time allotted.%
Budget breaks and reward yourself when you reach benchmarks.%
