Academic writing can be very challenging, especially for someone who has not been
in school for a very long time. I would let my co-worker know to have patience, take
your time when writing, and always proofread your work. Academic writing is similar
to the writing I do everyday at work thru emails. I have to make sure when
responding I have the correct information or I will have an angry resident. If research
is needed before answering I make sure I do it. If I am unsure about my response I
always ask my manager to proofread my emails before sending. At work we have a
rule that we must treat everyone that walks through our door the same way. No one
can be treated better than the other. What I offer one person I have to offer to
everyone. I’ve gotten better with this. In the beginning it was really hard. I created a
cheat sheet and wrote down questions that must be asked and I make sure I ask
everyone the same questions when they come in looking for an apartment. The point
is to make them feel comfortable with me and for me to make sure I deliver all the
necessary information that is needed to get them to lease with us.
