I think if I was going to try to explain academic writing to a coworker that was
thinking of furthering their education the easiest way to describe the style of writing
would be pretend your explaining something to someone that had never known of
the subject before. This being a college level class it seems that we the students are
kind of learning the tone of teaching in a way. We are asked to explain our answer to
questions and then expand on our answers, as if to show someone your evidence so
they can make their own opinion about the information you have given them. I cant
find similarities between academic writing and the type of writing I do for work with
coworkers. This is because of the amount of detail that goes into the writing
assignments, at work everyone knows and understands the job at hand so you can
be less detailed and everyone still understands the main objective. The audiences
are truly on different levels between academic and professional text, you can touch
on several subjects at one time in a professional setting but have to describe
everything almost one item at a time in order to explain all of the information and
lead your reader in the right direction.
