Academic writing is typically the same as what I do at work. Handling asphalt
samples, the information that I share with contractors has to have the data and
evidence to back it up. Mainly this is due to the fact that this data that I am sharing
with them results in either us paying them or their company owing us money. It's
easier to write in a more structured and concise manner due to the multiple different
federally mandated specifications that we have to follow in regards to samples. This
way there is less to interrupt or speculate on.
Audiences are somewhat similar in instances that are work and school related as
they are typically strangers that are being addressed, typically the communication is
trying to achieve a goal or certain criteria needing to be met, and deadlines are
always a thing.
I would describe academic writing to a co-worker as something that is clear, concise.
It's typically more focused, and backed up by evidence. As opposed to how we write
in interacting with family, friends or coworkers.
