If I were to explain academic writing to a co worker I would explain it in a way of
writing that gives purpose, example, opinion or facts. Academic writing is a way of
relaying accurate intellectual information to the reader. It is a way of writing to be
formal, and constructive. I would say that I use academic writing professionally at
work when it comes to typing emails and drafting contracts for insurances, so when
using that form of writing I would definitely say that it is different from writing in
everyday life. For instance I wouldn’t write the same way as I do with friends, or on
social media as I would writing a work email to an insurance company, or my boss.
When writing in an informal way we tend to use slang, a lot more abbreviations
verses when writing in a formal way. I can also say I use writing in different ways, I
wouldn’t write on any of my homework assignments as I would when commenting
back on someone’s Facebook post, or when posting a picture, or typing a message to
a friend. There is just a fine difference between the two that I honor.
