Developing a credible persona, both in-person and online, begins with knowing who or what
you want to be known for. If you are unsure of the image that you want to display, you may
fall short of being consistent. Consistency is key. Life labels us by what we repeatedly
showcase.Credibility comes over time. I have heard the saying “You have my trust until you
lose it.” But the reality for many is that trust is earned and not given. Being honest and
upfront is one way to establish a credible persona. No one is right 100% of the time. But
owning mistakes and misunderstandings makes a difference. Competence is another way to
establish a credible persona. From ensuring the integrity of the information put out to doing
the research to prove and clearly expressing the message that is being conveyed to the
audience, facts should always be at the forefront. An individual’s in-person persona and
online presence should speak the same language. The audience should not see a major
difference between the person they have become acquainted with online and the person they
are making eye contact with.
As an individual the best way to cultivate a good online persona is to curate what you allow
to be seen by others. Having different profiles for different types of activities allows you to
control what part of you you want to be seen by different groups. If company or a group is
going to judge and base their decision on what their own values are, I am going to show
them the values I think they want most and are most helpful for me to achieve the outcome
that I am looking for.In person I have found the best way to be credible is to be
knowledgeable. Show that I have the ability to decipher what you want or need, and be able
to get you to that goal. I was involved in an accident at work as a passenger, handled the
local scene until safety could make the 2 hour trip from the nearest depot, and then was
transferred to the safety team because I showed that I was competent and credible with my
actions. Internet communication, be it personal or business, or social media or email is being
watched by someone or a company entity. If you keep this in mind, then you will be
cognizant of what you post on all platforms which will help build your online credibility.
Many times, I have either known or read an article, where comments made by an individual
on their personal social media page has affected the status of their business career. How you
conduct yourself in your online communications whether it be personal, or business is all
building blocks towards your credibility. If you go out an apply for a new job, there is a
good chance that the recruiter will go look you up on social media to see how you conduct
yourself in your personal life. If you have inappropriate conduct or questionable
communication on your social media, the company may not consider you for the position as
you are considered not a good cultural fit. Good rule of thumb is to keep in mind that
anything you do electronically is recorded and can be brought back up. The YouTube video
"Social Media Ethics" focused on social media companies. Facebook and OK Cupid were
examples. a The lack of transparency damages the social media companies' credible persona.
Individuals develop and maintain a credible persona. This done by displaying strong ethical
values, honor, reliability, and fulfilling promises . As with the social media company saying,
"I'm a good guy, trust me," it also does not work for the individual to expect trust. And an
individual cannot be seen as hiding choices. Both individuals and companies must openly
and honestly display the traits that build and maintain trust—being an 'open book,' being
transparent is the way. do recall Facebook emotional manipulation occurring. There were
and are algorithms for everything online related to services, products, social media, online
networking, online dating, etc. I think I was recently phished or even "big brothered."
Everything I signed into was offering the same product, even during my YouTube searches
and reading one of my favorite music blogs. I finally rabbit holed myself into the said
product. I ended up purchasing based on the following research: credibility, performance,
verifiable facts, and nutritional content. I have not received the product yet to say whether it
is indeed worthy, but it is 100% satisfaction guaranteed. Social media is a great platform to
help others as well as building a reputable source for yourself. I actually read a very
interesting active on how a woman who lost her daughter never used social media before
until she started submitting the posting of her daughter onto different sites. This made
everyone aware of finding or just glancing around to see if anyone spotted her daughter.
Sadly at the end they found her body, but they also were able to reach other victims who
came forward of adult for this man and he was locked away for good. I just thought it was
Interesting that back in the day they didn’t have that. They could only reach a certain
amount of people. With social media you can make a movement. Building in person
credibility starts with how you present yourself verbally, non-verbally, and physically. When
you walk into a room, on stage, or chair a meeting, your audience is observing the way you
are dressed, your facial expressions, how you introduce yourself, the questions you ask, and
the responses you give. Having the ability to gain and keep a person(s) attention makes them
want to learn more about you, and your company builds credibility.
We spend tremendous amounts of time on social media posting and reposting videos, chats,
etc. Even if we are on a personal Facebook page, the things we share online could come
back to haunt us later. Just recently in the news, we have seen people who lost their jobs due
to posting unprofessional and unpleasant things. I had an HR manager who would check out
applicant’s Facebook pages to glean how they were in their personal life. Did they live the
mission/vision of the agency? The HR manager stated, “your online self is like an unwritten
resume, you’re selling yourself to your audience.” Your online presence can build on a
brand. Post trustworthy links and make sure your branding is consistent. Videos or links we
post should be in line with our mission/vision statement and transparent. Interacting with
those that ask questions or comment on our posts is very important in building a credible
online persona. One of the ways that a person can develop a credible persona in person and
online is by by being honest, having integrity, being competent, transparent, having good
judgement and being liked by others. I feel that It takes all these qualities to truly be a good
credible person. Another way a person can develop a credible persona through online is by,
engaging with their audience and most importantly being an authentic person by making
sure that your online persona matches who you are in reality. Lastly, adding value is another
credible persona, this helps by discovering what your customers or audience would like to
know and address those issues directly in your blog post and being dedicated and consistent.
I believe that a person can develop a credible persona in person by consistently showing
dependency, honesty, confidence, and being kind. I feel that those four things are what I
most look for inside of a person for me to believe that they’re credible. I also have to see
that these things are consistent as well within a person. I would think proving credibility
online would be based on factual information and pure honesty. Also the person that you’re
being displayed as, we should still believe it is you. A person have to prove that they can be
trustworthy. Being trustworthy allows me to take what you say in confidence into
consideration. If I can trust your words and ways, I know that I find you credible.
Individuals can develop a credible persona in person and online by being honest, genuine
and respectful. a I feel if you are honest and be yourself then you want have to put on an act.
A person should be willing to share there experiences, open to receive the thoughts and ideas
of others and be able to give input when needed. I do agree that people allow social media to
influence their ideas and judgements. Many times we watch movies, view media post or
news and begin to think maybe what others are doing will work for us without realizing that
it's not valid information. If people can validate that the information they received from you
is credible then you will have a greater chance of others trusting you. Trust is a major factor
in all things we do. If you are providing false information whether on social media or in
person than people will not want to do business with you. Over all I feel that being upfront
about your life experiences, goals and achievements are the best way to be whether online or
in person. I believe two major ways an individual can develops a credible persona results
from sharing experience as well as being confident. Sharing your experience with the given
subject helps others assess where your knowledge level of that given subject is at. This sets
up that topic for others to somewhat find their place in the discussion. For example, between
a teacher and student, the teacher knows more and shares that experience to the student. This
then builds the credibility of that teacher as the student is the one who does not have the
current information available. Delivering that experience, however should be backed by
confidence from the speaker. Expressing confidence helps others feel at ease when they
receive information. It helps reduce the skeptic ideals one might have from a defensive,
quiet sort of speaker. Confidence also gives the speaker a little more comfort in the actions
they take when delivering the content. These two ideals can have a lot more of an effect
when paired together ultimately allowing the speaker to deliver their message with meaning.
do agree with transparency. It is much better to be transparent and upfront than it is to be
close minded. Being transparent and open minded allows you to show others that while
opinions may not be the same it does not have to result in frustration or getting upset.
Having transparency allows others to be comfortable with you in both a business sense and
your online platform. Ultimately people will believe those they are working with will be
upfront with them and genuine so they will feel more comfortable in general. As per the
video, there are over 130 million Facebook users in the United States. Almost everyone has
one. When it comes to developing a credible persona online, you must be careful about what
you post. When it comes to hiring, just from experience, my supervisor always looked at the
potential persons' Facebook profiles or linked in to get a feel for what they may be like. I
know some great people who post some very political things on social media, and it makes
them look like they are not that great of a person for simply not agreeing with certain things.
That can be frowned upon. However, they are so kind, caring, and appear to be a good
person in real life. So, not matching your online persona with the person you appear to be in
person does not show credibility. I think it is important to present yourself in a good way on
social media. To develop a credible persona both in-person and online, you must present
honesty, respect, transparency, good integrity, and good judgment. In-person it is important
how you talk with others. Sympathizing with people and showing that you care is so
important to gaining credibility. Being cautious of your facial expressions and body
language is important also. You do not want to appear bothered or unamused. When it
comes to social media, I believe a person can build credibility or prove credibility by what
that present online. For instance if a business has a website or Facebook profile based of
their reviews alone will show a consumer just how credible that business is based of what
past consumers have said about the experience while idolizing this business. You will know
if it’s good or bad then make the decision yourself to go along with it. Also certain
companies when they present their work portfolios online it gives a person an opportunity to
see what exactly their expectations are.In person a credibility can be proven from word of
mouth and also work ethic, credibility in the work place is something that is built up over
time from being trust worthy, and reliable, an working hard. This credibility is then seen by
one person and then passed along to anyone that ask. Social media and in person credibility
are similar in the way that they are accepted, social MediaNews and good work ethics.
When I view someone as being credible, I see if they are using words like according to or so
and so stated. I lot of YouTube channels I watch on stories that are happening across the
world are always verified by the news. I am able to look it up for more information if I
wanted to. A way for someone to be credible in person is just to make sure you are not
gossiping and that you tell the whole story. Sometimes when you leave out pieces to a story
it can seem as if you tried to cover it up. People are more credible when they are honest and
competent with what that are speaking of. If someone starts stuttering during a conversation
you may want to only believe some of what you heard. Stuttering could mean that they are
trying to find another lie to cover up the first lie. It's always important to do your research
before you go spreading false narratives that cannot be verified. I always ensure I am
competent with the information I am delivering. when I am looking to hire someone there
are several factors I look into one of the are how they present themself in person, how they
dictate their resume, and the other is how and what they put on their social media. Let’s face
it they world is a virtual world these days and peoples true colors come out on their social
media. Personally and professionally I choose to not air any of my beliefs views or dirty
laundry on social media. I choose to use social media for communication with distant friends
and family. Social media is an indentation into someone’s personal life. When I am looking
into someone’s social media I’m looking to see if they post how they hate their jobs (people
do that by the way) do they put their drama out there for the world to see or are they
reserved. It’s all about how a person carries themself and you can get a really good look
when looking into their social media, honestly its the place people are their true self. So to
answer the question it is all about how a person carries themself weather it is to your face,
by email, in a resume, over the phone, or on social media.
