If I had a friend that needed for me to help them decide what computer would be best for
their needs and they did the basics like accessing the Internet, paying bills, and occasionally
playing some games I would suggest any HP Pavilion with Windows 10. Since my friend
takes a lot of family photos and videos that they will want to edit them, I would defiantly
recommend an Apple Mac Mini. In the photography community you always hear that the
best photos are edited with MAC system. Of course, these photo edits are with Software
programs like Lightroom and Photoshop in which you can use on PC or MAC. And if my
friend is not familiar with the OS from Apple this may be a huge learning curb. So, let’s just
say she does know the basics with Apple’s OS, the MAC Mini has a 6-core processor and
supports 65 GB of RAM. It also has the storage up to 2TB SSD. For Picture and Video, the
amount of storage space the Mac Mini provides would be smart choice. This system also has
Intel-integrated UHD Graphics 630 in which is on the slower end for any gamer, but since
they are only gaming occasionally, I think they would be safe with MAC Mini.
When helping a friend that is looking for a computer to for internet browsing and
occasionally higher workloads such as games and editing, I do not think they would need to
go too crazy. First thing would be deciding between a laptop option or a desktop PC. I am
going to go with planning a desktop PC since it will be a bit more budget friendly. Playing the
occasional game, and presumably light editing as a hobby, I think they can get by on a bit of
a budget pc. As far as storage, I would recommend at least 1TB of storage for photo/video
as well any installed games. For a processor, I would go with a Core-i5, and a GTX 1660 GPU
since these parts can get the job done playing most games, without breaking the bank. As
far as RAM, I think 16GB is a good spot. It should be more than enough for gaming, and
some photo editing while still allow the system to feel quick. For external accessories, the
obvious one would be a portable external SSD for extra storage space while being able to
take it on the go, as well as file transferring.
There are an abundance of computers to choose from when it comes to this question. I
would say that if my friend were looking for a computer that is reliable and will last a long
time all while being able to provide their basic needs and editing needs, I would go with the
Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon Gen 7. This is my personal preference because when I had the
Lenovo Thinkpad, I didnt have any issues with it, I never ran out of storage, and I was able to
download all the apps I needed (ie. Photoshop and illustrator) and have them both open at
the same time all while browsing the web. This one will help with my friends needs because
it is a simple computer, but has the capacity to do so much more when needed. It has a 256
GB CLE SSD hard drive, a Window's 10 Pro 64 operating System, and the battery life is
strong. If my friend is looking to pay the price for this laptop, I can vouch for them and say
that they won't be disappointed.
