NOTE: This course will use Teaching Assistants (TAs) in order to assist the instructor with the student’s

COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course surveys U.S. history from the end of the Civil War to the present day It traces socioeconomic .
developments following the First World War and their impact on present American attitudes and policies
toward domestic as well as international affairs.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1. Discuss the developments, racial and political policies, and laws from 1865 to the 1920s
following the end of slavery.
2. Discuss events after 1865 in terms of social and economic conditions caused by
corresponding changes in the attitudes of the people and policies of the government.
3. Discuss the rise of the United States to a world “superpower” from 1940 to present day and
how the f ormal international policies of government influenced the role of America as a
policeman of the world.
WEEKLY COURSE SCHEDULE
The standard requirement for a 4.5 credit hour course is for students to spend 13.5 hours in weekly work.
This includes preparation and activities regardless of delivery mode.
