When it comes to character, block and stream ciphers and its uses it is
important to understand the background of them all and why they would
be used. The three ciphers are used for encryption and decryption of any
type of sensitive or private information and often times used in emails and
files. This process is done by first using plain text and having it encoded to
where it is not easily able to be understood turning it into cyphertext.
Character ciphers replaces the plaintext letters and is a relatively easy
way to turn plaintext into ciphertext but could be a downfall as well
because it is also easy to decrypt.
Block cipher a symmetric based encryption that taking a fixed group of
information and encrypting it all at once and needs special care to be
done right. These blocks are usually a predetermined size such as a block
of 64 bits (8 eight- bit bytes) (Wills, 2019).
Stream ciphers also another symmetric based encryption and is encrypted
one bit at a time. This is also done while the data is streaming and the
process is relatively fast taking nanoseconds to encrypt, used often in
mobile communications.
