The protection of organizational and consumer data is an ever-evolving challenge for any business that
maintains or handles such information. Responsibilities to protect data are inherent in all job roles and is a
necessary requirement for the perseverance and livelihood of all organizations.
Select and conduct a case analysis on one of the data breaches mentioned in the article "Five of the Biggest
Data Breaches Ever."
After you've selected your case and reviewed the information, write a 3–5 page paper in which you:
1. Identify and describe the data breach incident and the method used by the perpetrator to launch the attack
(data breach).
2. Provide details on the time frame of the attack. Specifically, detail when it started, when it was discovered by
the organization, and when it was mitigated.
3. Analyze how the data breach could have been prevented with the proper security controls in place.
4. Identify the mitigations that the organization put in place to prevent a recurrence of the attack.
5. Use at least three quality resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and similar websites do not qualify

The protection of personal and confidential information is tremendously important to U.S. citizens and
organizations. The security of a private citizen's information and personal effects is specifically addressed in
the Constitution and in the Bill of Rights. In modern times, the Internet has provided a venue where information
about individual users is gathered, stored, analyzed, and reported. This information is sometimes used by
organizations to make better tactical and strategic business decisions. Considering the large amounts of data
collected by the government and private industries, there are huge gaps in existing protection laws.
Review the article "Is Privacy Possible in 2020?," or select another case and provide the link to it in your writing
and on the reference page.
Write a 3–5 page paper based on the information from the above link with supporting research activities. You
may also use the information in the text (without plagiarizing), or other resources. Complete the following:
1. Identify and briefly describe 2–3 laws enacted to protect citizens' privacy and intellectual property rights.
2. Identify the organizations responsible for enforcement or monitoring compliance with those laws.
3. Discuss 2–3 systems that gather data that citizens fear is being misused.
4. The European Union (EU) designed the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) to strengthen the
protection of citizens' data. Discuss the pros and cons of its use in comparison to the protections present
in U.S. law or regulations.
5. Provide suggestions or recommendations of mitigations that citizens can use to protect themselves from
possible loss or misuse of personal or intellectual information.
6. Use at least three quality resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and similar websites do not qualify
as quality resources. The Strayer University Library has many excellent resources.

Louis V. Gerstner, Jr., former CEO and Chairman of the Board of IBM, stated, "Computers are magnificent tools
for the realization of our dreams, but no machine can replace the human spark of spirit, compassion, love, and
understanding" (1).
A solid ethical framework is crucial for companies involved in the design and development of software and IT
systems. At the very least, companies involved in these endeavors want to avoid poor sales and bad press
from bugs or poor design. However, much more is at stake. Companies face potentially massive criminal and
legal liability exposures if they make subpar or unethically designed products and services available to the
public. Software bugs or poor design within computer systems can produce financially damaging occurrences
and could lead to property destruction or even fatalities.
To complete this assignment, use the Internet or the Strayer library to locate an example of poor IT design or
software errors that led to personal or corporate financial or property loss or to a fatal accident.
Write a 3–5 page paper that addresses the following items:
1. Identify and describe the software design flaw, glitch, or error. Summarize the resulting impact of the failure.
2. Determine if the failure was a result of poor quality or an ethical requirement deficiency. Provide
recommendations that you feel would have prevented the failure.
3. Explain who, in your opinion, should be held accountable for the incident and why.
4. Identify the corrective actions that were put in place by the organization after the incident.
5. Use at least three quality resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and similar websites do not qualify
as quality resources. The Strayer University Library has many excellent resources.
