What can small businesses do to keep up with the constantly changing tax laws? b The most
important step is to hire competitive CPA who will review and advise on business tax saving
strategy. Small business owners need to read regularly, it is a must. Read financial literature,
business periodicals, and more. Because, unlike large corporations, their budget ob. professional
fees could be tight. They need to be aware of what new tax law is being proposed, whether the
laws pass, and how those changes might affect many aspects of their business operation. That
would help them to determine if CPA they hired is worth of trust. They also might want to
subscribe to local business journals, or e-news channels such as the Wall Street Journal, USA Today,
Money, and more. The IRS has done a decent job of getting new tax law information out to the
public via their website. While it is not always the most organized resource, it can be referred as
one of the reliable sources of tax information.
Where do you draw the line between what business owners need to know and what they should
rely on their tax advisor to keep track of? b I believe CPA should be transparent with their clients
about any tax law changes and updates. More than many other professionals, tax professionals are
constantly faced with the need to keep their knowledge and their skills current. Tax laws change
from one year to the next. If you are not up to speed on the latest changes, you will wind up
making more work for yourself and potentially costing your clients money. What makes this
situation even more frustrating is that the government often makes changes at the last minute,
and that it takes time for new tax law to trickle down into public knowledge. The Internal Revenue
Code is the best source for CPAs and accountants to ensure they are looking at the most recent tax
laws. These laws can change often, so it is important that when investigating a tax issue for a
client, the most recent law is being looked at. There are many other sources that can be looked at
to make sure updates about tax issues are not being missed. According to the IRS website, there
are several e-News subscriptions on a variety of topics. By subscribing to these services, tax law
updates will be sent to us so we can determine if they will affect our clients. These services range
from IRS Tax Tips to updated Revenue Rulings and any tax law changes (E-News Subscriptions). This
is a great resource that should be taken advantage of as it is a CPA and an accountant’s job to stay
up to date on tax law changes so they can accurately advise their clients.
There are many things small businesses can do to keep up with tax laws that are constantly
changing. The business can subscribe to the IRS services, so emails are sent to the company
whenever there are updates. Small businesses can also have a staff member who oversees
monitoring any important tax changes that may affect the business. Many states will post tax law
changes on their Department of Revenue websites, so businesses can monitor their state site to
see if anything has been announced.
It is important for business owners to have a basic understand the tax laws applicable to their
company, but owners should also be able to rely on their tax advisors to ensure they are correctly
following the current tax laws. It is also important for the tax advisor to stay up to date on laws
related to the business activities. The business owner will be more knowledgeable on the business
specifics, so it is important they know the basics of the laws to know what would or would not be
relevant.
Internal Revenue Code and regulations, CPAs and accountants can use a lot of different resources
to collect information and updates on tax issues affecting their clients. Some of these resources
includes tax Research Platforms that provide up-to-date content and comprehensive information
on tax laws, rulings, and interpretations. Subscribing to tax newsletters and publications can keep
accountants and CPAs informed about recent tax developments, changes in legislation, and
important court cases that may impact their clients. To keep up with constantly changing tax laws,
small businesses can take the following steps by talking with a Tax Advisor to provide guidance,
ensure compliance, and keep the business owner informed about relevant tax changes. Business
owners should stay aware of tax updates by reviewing newsletters, publications, and official
announcements from tax authorities. This helps them stay informed and understand potential
impacts on their business.
Participating in tax workshops or webinars conducted by tax professionals or business
organizations can provide valuable insights and help small business owners understand the latest
tax issues. The line between what business owners need to know and what they should rely on
their tax advisor for can vary depending on the complexity of the business and tax laws involved.
Generally, it is important for business owners to have a basic understanding of tax laws and how
they impact their operations. This enables them to make informed decisions, maintain proper
records, and identify potential tax-saving opportunities. However, due to the difficulty and constant
changes in tax laws, small businesses should trust their tax advisors as professionals to navigate
the details of tax compliance.
Although CPA's and accountants are trained to understand IRC and referencing regulations, tax
laws and regulations are constantly changing. Therefore, they must ensure they keep up with these
changes, to ensure they give their clients the best tax advice and they do not give guidance that is
no longer supported by tax codes. They can do so by accessing primary and secondary sources
regarding tax legislation. They can reference areas of the IRC as needed, to ensure they follow the
rules correctly. They can also access secondary sources like the IRS website, the Journal of
Accountancy, Forbes, etc. as these sites provides articles, newsletter, and constant updates
regarding tax law changes. They can also take or sit in on CPE courses, seminars, and webinars
which provide guidance on relevant tax matters. Accounting firms can do things like provide their
employees with the knowledge of upcoming seminars and subscribe to tax newsletters. I am
uncertain of the source, but the firm I work for subscribes to a daily tax report, so I along with
other employees, receive emails daily regarding updated tax matters. This helps ensure employees
are staying up to date with tax laws.
Well, it is not our client’s job to be experts of tax law, it is helpful when they have somewhat of an
understanding. This way they can ensure they provide their tax advisor with the necessary
documents they will need to prepare their returns. When clients are organized and have all their
documents together, this is extremely helpful to the tax advisor in saving them time. If our clients
also had somewhat of tax knowledge, it would help them when having conversations with their tax
advisor that uses complex tax knowledge. They can also use this knowledge to apply necessary
actions that will benefit them when it comes time to prepare their taxes. They can also reference
tax news and articles to ensure they stay up to date on changing tax laws. However, this certainly
is not a requirement of them.
