The social movement that has been chosen is ‘Black Lives Matter’. It is basically a
movement in which people take part in order to extend their support to freedom, justice and
liberation of people belonging to the black community. In recent times, many people from the
black community have been subjected to unjust racial discrimination and attacks. This
movement provides an ideal platform to show support for the community members so that
they can be treated with respect and dignity just like any other citizen of the nation. One of
the main highlights of the Black Lives Matter movement is that people have taken part in the
protests by keeping aside their differences relating to race, color, gender, religion, etc.
Even though I was aware of the discrimination that black people were facing in the
daily life, I became aware of the Black Lives Matter movement when I came across a social
media post about the fatal shooting of Michael Brown by a police official that took place in
the year 2014 (Halpern & Cobb, 2020). The incident revealed the grim and harsh reality of
