My topic’s scientific background:
Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) are associated with the natural sciences of biology and
chemistry. Irrespective of the technique employed, all genetically modified organisms (GMOs)
entail the alteration of an organism's genetic composition (genes).The role of chemistry in GMOs
is to recreate an organism's DNA, which leads to the production of RNA and proteins. Modifying
DNA fundamentally alters the organism.
Impact on my audience:
This subject is of utmost importance to my audience, as it directly impacts the livelihoods of
farmers and the health of consumers.The research findings have the potential to generate novel
agricultural marketing tactics for farmers and expand consumer dietary preferences.
My empirical evidence:
The Economic Research Service found that the adoption of genetically modified (GM) seeds led
to a decrease in the use of pesticides and herbicides.
Why this issue is important to me personally:
Having witnessed several family members succumb to several types of cancer, this subject
immediately grabbed my interest.6
Impact on my thinking:
Adopting a scientific mindset has a significant impact on our approach to challenges and
knowledge acquisition. Here are a few ways it influences our cognitive processes:
Empirical Approach: To draw conclusions, scientists rely on empirical evidence, which includes
observations, experiments, and data. This strategy promotes the development of critical thinking
skills, impartiality, and reasoning based on evidence.

Hypothesis testing involves the formulation of scientific hypotheses, followed by a systematic
process of testing them. This process cultivates inquisitiveness, promotes investigation, and
assists us in honing our comprehension of intricate matters.
Challenging Assumptions: Scientific thinking encourages us to critically examine assumptions,
biases, and preconceived views. We acknowledge that initial ideas may not consistently
correspond with empirical evidence.
Iterative Process: In science, procedures are repeated and refined. We modify hypotheses, adapt
approaches, and gain knowledge from unsuccessful attempts.
This iterative approach results in a more profound understanding.Scientists recognize the
presence of uncertainty and maintain a receptive attitude towards fresh information. Flexibility
takes the place of inflexibility.
Collaboration: Scientists engage in interdisciplinary collaboration, exchanging knowledge and
opinions. The adoption of a collaborative mindset enhances our comprehension.
To summarize, adopting a scientific mindset promotes the practice of questioning, logical
thinking based on facts, and a dedication to ongoing education. It influences the design of
research initiatives and enhances our ability to tackle intricate problems with more efficiency.6
