• One of the steps that can be eliminated from the current process flowchart is
‘putting the leaves in 50 kg bags’ in the farm. The process is irrelevant because in the
processing area, the weighing of the leaves is done again. In order to eliminate the process
and encourage lean practices, the step must be eliminated. By taking this step, the weighing
of the leaves will be done before the start of the processing activity. At this stage weighing
can give an accurate picture of the leaves that have been used as input and the efficiency of
the processes can be increased (Rapid labour force survey of covid-19 impact, 2021).
• In the current work process, leaves are dried two times. However there is an
opportunity to eliminate the ‘second drying process.’ Since the first drying process is
already conducted, it is necessary to conduct it as the one and only drying process where
they are properly dried. Making such a change can increase the overall sustainability of the
current work process by ensuring that leaves are not put into new trays for the second
drying procedure (Rapid labour force survey of covid-19 impact, 2021). It can boost the
degree of sustainability by ensuring that excessive drying that can lead to negative
environmental impact can be curtailed.
• The ‘Poor-quality leaves are thrown away’ step needs to be removed because the
activity is already done at the stage when the leaves are removed from the trays and
reweighted. Thus this step leads to additional wastage of effort. During the initial step when
the leaves are removed, their checking must be complete and poor quality leaves must be
discarded. The process that is followed involving visual inspection must act as a quality
control measure to ensure that there are no more poor quality leaves at this stage.
• The weighing of the leaves that is done in the initial stage of packing and shipping
can be removed because after taking the weight, misshaped and discolored leaves are
eliminated. So the weighing can be done after the removal of such leaves so that the final
insight into the weight can be determined.

• A number of implications can arise by making the changes in the current work
processes. Some of the positive implications are saving time and effort by eliminating
repetitive tasks. A negative implication is the challenges of the workers to adapt to the new
workflow.
• In order to address the issues that have been presented in the Issue Log, the project
manager needs to establish robust communication so that there can be clarity in terms of
project scope, information sharing, and resourcing aspects.
• In NationaliTeas, operations management techniques such as project management
and lean manufacturing can add value by minimizing wastage, promoting better quality,
sharing of common goal and working in a coordinated manner to accomplish the goals.
