I think that the ‘Farm-To-Table’ principles is a great idea! Local supermarket chains could
incorporate these principles while still meeting their consumers’ demands. First, they
could create a relationship with local farmers. Establishing a relationship is important
because each party will need the trust and support of the other. I also think that this type of
project should be done slowly and very carefully because there are risks involved.

Farm to Table, also known as ‘Farm to Fork’ or ‘Farm to Plate’, is a social movement
centered around serving food straight from a farm to the consumer. (Cannomela,2021)

One benefit of the supermarket or restaurant who applies this principle is that they will be
considered a refreshing place to shop for groceries or to dine-in.$ Currently, most people
want to incorporate a healthier style of living. Eating recently harvested food would be a
big deal!

There are risks involved in the ‘Farm to Table’ principle. It’s not just the produce that
poses risks for today’s farmers.$ Their data could also fall into the wrong hands. Like other
professionals in the digital age, farmers rely on computers to help manage their crops and
livestock, operate machinery, communicate with suppliers, accept credit card payments
from customers…. With computers comes the potential risk of data breach. (Poll,2016)

Visiting the perspective farm alone with a knowledgeable and well-informed staff would
be one main factor that would help me to determine whether I would support applying
farm to table principles to the supermarket. $I would have to stop by their facility to
observe how the farmer(s) process their produce. Making sure that it is safe for my
customers.
