Hey everyone! I’m Rye and I live in Cleveland, Ohio with my husband and our 3 children (ages 7,
7, and 3). I’m a (mostly) stay at home mom and a student online at SNHU working towards my
degree in Psychology. My end goal is to become a psychologist and my focus would be either
criminal psychology or the children of the LGBTQ+ community, very different spectrums, I know
LOL.
The current event I chose to focus on are the proposed drag bans through Tennessee, Florida,
and Texas (just to name a few). This ‘current event’ technically took place last year but is still
very much in the media. One of the main points legislators are pushing to the media is that a
drag ban would ‘protect our children’ by making claims that drag artists are grooming young
children into the LGBTQ+ community. Lawmakers have consistently made claims that because
these Drag Queens do such events as Drag Queen Story Time, they are seeking to promote the
‘trans agenda’ throughout our youth (Squirrell & Davey), which could not be further from the
truth. Some lawmakers are also pushing the idea that Drag promote anti-Christian beliefs
throughout society. While, at this point, all drag bans have not been passed due to the
argument that they are unconstitutional, they are still being pushed in many red states.
I hope you all have a great week!
