Adaptive functioning refers to how effectively someone manages the demands of life and how
independent they become in comparison to others their age and background. For example,
communication and social skills are crucial aspects of adaptive functioning. Additionally, the abilities and
skills needed for individuals to function on a daily basis such as taking care of their health, completing
tasks, and caring for personal hygiene at age-appropriate levels is another important component of
