6-1 Discussion: Traumatic Brain Injury
The leading cause of disability and mortality in adolescents and children in the United States is
traumatic brain injuries (TBI) with the highest rates among young children under the age of four and
teens fifteen to nineteen years old. Difficulties with executive function and processing information,
concentration, attention, and memory are some examples of cognitive effects of traumatic brain injuries
and individuals who have suffered from TBI often, due to the severity of the injury, need support in
multiple areas.
