PSY 211 Module Two Milestone Template
Review the article on the six dimensions of wellness. Then answer each question with a minimum of 3 to
5 sentences. Support your answers with credible sources when appropriate. Complete this template by
replacing the bracketed text with the relevant information.
●Choose one of the wellness dimensions and explain whether you feel it is guided more by
nature or nurture. Explain your response.
The wellness dimension I chose is occupational wellness and I feel that it is guided more by
nurture instead of nature. Nurture is based on life experiences that shape a person and
occupational wellness involves the satisfaction a person feels through their employment,
academic, or volunteer work. As a person gets older and works at different places, they gain the
knowledge as to what career they might want to pursue and also shows them the effects of a
negative work environment. Having these things then allows them to have a healthy
occupational wellness!
●Explain how one dimension of wellness influences cognitive well-being during a specific stage of
development.
Intellectual wellness influences cognitive well-being during a person's infancy and into their
childhood. “Piaget proposed that the groundwork for cognitive development occurred during
the first 2 years of life as infants learn about the world through their senses and their motoric
actions” (Sigelman & Rider, 2022). Infants learn through actions and they are learning about the
world. This can be through seeing the effect their actions have and also by repetition of certain
acts like blowing a kiss or waving goodbye.Overall, intellectual wellness encourages learning and
growing as a person grows up.
●Identify the wellness dimension that you feel most in control of. Explain your response.
The wellness dimension that I feel most in control of would have to be emotional wellness. I was
diagnosed with depression and anxiety from a very early age and I also struggled with addiction
throughout my teen years. Because of those things, I have spent a good amount of time by
myself, with a therapist, and with others working on being aware of how I am feeling. By
understanding my emotions, I can manage my behaviors and not let my emotions get the best
of me.
●Identify the wellness dimension that you feel least in control of. Explain your response.
The wellness dimension that I feel the least in control of would absolutely be occupational
wellness. I have never worked a job longer than maybe 2 years and I always had to deal with
very negative work environments. I currently do not have a job and I am just now deciding what
I want as a career. The only thing I feel satisfaction for is my academic work because I did very,
very well in high school and I am doing equally as good so far during my time at SNHU.
●Choose one dimension that you believe to be predominant in development. Explain your
response.
1
I believe that social wellness is predominant in development because being socially healthy can
give you the tools in order to be social in any setting you find yourself in and help you maintain
healthy relationships with people. Having good social wellness can also have a positive impact
on your mental health by giving you a sense of belonging and increasing resilience. Being socially
isolated can cause depression, make you feel lonely and can even sometimes increase your risk
for some diseases (high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke).
●Explain how emotional intelligence and resilience factors affect your well-being.
oConsider how you can apply the dimensions of wellness to support your own well-being
in your response.
Emotional intelligence is essential in understanding and managing your own emotions. People who have
a higher level of emotional intelligence are able to respond to distress in a better way and they have
better coping skills. “Emotional intelligent people also have high levels of self-motivation and a deeper
sense of life satisfaction” (Rao et al., 2024). People who are highly resilient can have a positive impact on
their emotions through humor and relaxation. I can apply intellectual wellness to support my well-being
by actively engaging in learning activities and finding different things that I enjoy doing. For occupational
wellness I can continue with my education and find a job that I enjoy doing. For physical wellness I can
prioritize eating healthier and participating in healthy activities such as walking or riding a bike. For
emotional wellness I can keep note of my coping skills. For spiritual wellness I can maybe meditate or
take a walk in nature. For social wellness I can make sure I am maintaining a good social life because I
definitely feel as though I don’t have a social life at all.
