My hot button topic is police brutality which is under the Social Justice category. This is a
sensitive topic. It matters deeply to me because of the way blacks are disproportionately
harassed and killed by police officers. Police brutality affects the black race greatly. We as
black parents with black sons must constantly have the talk with them on how not to get killed
by the police and to make it to live another day. When my sons are out, I worry about them
constantly. My anxiety is through the roof at times. It is not just about my sons, but it is about
my daughter also because black women are being harassed as well. Here lately different races
have been affected by police brutality as well which has to stop. Since the untimely killing of
George Floyd, society has really come together. To me, the younger generation is leading the
way because they do not see color. They only see human life which has brought our society
together surprisingly. There is still so much more to be done, but we seem to be moving in the
right direction. One of the psychological concepts that I would use with this issue is emotional
intelligence. Although this is a scary and could be a deadly position to be in, we must use
emotional maturity when responding to such abuse. The goal is to make it out alive and not
allow our emotions and fears to overpower us. This is so sad to even must acknowledge and be
aware of, especially by those who were sworn to protect and serve. The stigma within The
LGBTQ community is a hot bottom topic because a fair amount of people disagrees with our
lifestyle. It matters to me because I am a part of this community. Their community is their
home, which is also what makes them who they are. Society may change there may change
minds based on the influence of the beliefs of someone else. concepts could be used to further
explain why things appear and happen the way they do. Social justice applies to the fact that
everything is fair.
