• Why are you in school?
I am in school to get my BA in psychology and then will go onto
getting my masters. With a master’s in psychology, I hope to advance
to a meaningful career in counselling. I have not decided what
specific field I want to go into just yet.
• What are your strengths?
My strengths are being a creative and compassionate person who
works well with others. I am great at planning ahead, solving difficult
problems, and putting my all into what I am passionate about.
• How do you learn best?
I learn best when I am interested in what I am doing. It is easy for me
to learn by watching others. Once I get a feel for what I am supposed
to do in a situation I take charge and learn hands on.
• What are your skills?
My skills include caring for children and elderly people. I am thorough
and clean while working. I have plenty of experience in customer
service on the phone and in person. I have great communication
skills. I have worked with handling money and delivery driving as well.
• What skills do you want to improve upon or learn?
I would love to improve in my emotional intelligence to help me in a
counselling career. I would like to learn more coping skills to help
others with their issues. I would also like to learn more computer
skills because this will be important in any career.
• What are your interests and hobbies?
My interests and hobbies include being a full-time mother to two
little ones, reading, writing, adventuring outdoors, cooking, singing,
and dancing.
• What problems would you like to address in the world?
There are many problems in this world that I think about daily. I hope
to have a positive contribution to the mental well-being of children,
whether this means helping them through tough times such as
hunger, bullying, or family crisis. I would like to also address pollution
issues. It would give me a sense of purpose to raise awareness of
environmental issues and contribute to a cleaner world.
• Where do you envision yourself in five years?
In five years, I plan to be close to finishing my academic career in
psychology and have a job that utilizes my BA in psychology. I hope
to grow more confident and supportive as a mother and to be proud
of how far I have come and where I am headed.
• Which of the programmatic course themes is most relevant to
your career or goals for personal growth?
o Self-care
o Social justice
o Emotional intelligence
o Career connections
o Ethics
b All these course themes are extremely important in my career
and personal growth. Self-care keeps me going and is important for
me to teach to future patients and my own children. Social justice
reminds me of the impact I will have as a counselor when someone
has a problem that affects them and everyone they are connected to.
I have a responsibility to uphold values that have to do with social
justice and ethics. I cannot make a difference in my career or my
personal life if I do not have ethics. Emotional intelligence is needed
in any career or situation that deals with other people. This will allow
me to keep a level head and to be a strong voice of reason. Lastly,
career connections will encourage me to move up in the professional
world and later help others to do the same. These are themes that I
will pass down to my children so that they can be successful in life.
Of course, I had to share a picture of my babies! They are everything
that I stand for, and they make me a stronger person. This picture
also represents how I stand for the right to be yourself and express
your creativity regardless of how others may view you. (The kids
gave me and themselves a makeover.)
