Why are you in school?
I am in school because I want to have a chance to be able to support
myself in the future. Education is not a guarantee of that, but it’s a
better chance than what is available without it. I was originally going
for a degree in psychology, but during this course, I have discovered
that I am not cut out for psychology. I knew it would not be easy. I
don’t think a lot of people with Asperger’s aim for careers in
psychology. But it was worth a shot. I really struggled with this
course. I just don’t understand this stuff. So, at this moment, I think I
may switch my education to something in the geosciences.
What are your strengths?
I am incredibly gorgeous.
Okay, besides that I enjoy learning and I have a good attitude. I am
good at staying focused and completing a task.
• a a How do you learn best?
I am a visual learner. I do great with explicit instruction, repetition and
observation. I actually do best in routine.
• What are your skills?
Actually, I kind of think being autistic is in fact a skill. I am very
focused and organized. I’m incredibly thorough and don’t leave tasks
unfinished. a Even if it is too late to turn in assignment, I still do the
assignment. All my school work has been done on my cell phone this
semester, and only on weekends because of my job. I was
hospitalized for kidney stone complications earlier this semester and
got way behind. But I still completed my assignments regardless.
They wouldn’t assign them if they didn’t think we would learn from
them. So, I did it anyway.
• What skills do you want to improve upon or learn?
Learning styles that are not visual. Understanding social cues. I’d
really like to do better at reading compression. I like reading but
sometimes I struggle with technical stuff.
• What are your interests and hobbies
I love Urban homesteading, raising chickens. I don’t butcher them; I
simply retire them. I m a vegetarian. I built 2 ponds outside a few
years back, each one its own well-balanced ecosystem. I have fish in
them that have been there over 5 years. I also collected fossils,
crystals, rocks…geological odds and ends.
• What problems would you like to address in the world?
Responsibility in caring for our planet! I am sick of all the fighting over
global warming. a Its not getting anywhere. So you don’t believe in
global warming? So what? Do you believe that we should have clean
air? Do you believe that oceans are better when they are not filled
with garbage? Would you like a little less micoparticles of plastic in
your food? Then be responsible. Recycle where you can, a choose
green products, and try to avoid stuff that contaminate our
environment. I don’t care if people want to fight to the death against
global warming. Its ridiculous but they are allowed to believe
whatever they want. But they don’t have a right to muck up the
environment for everyone else.
Where do you envision yourself in five years?
Well, if the bizarre news feeds on Facebook are right, a possibly
hurling through space because the planet blew up. Or as some alien
overlords pool boy.
On the chance we are all still good and still here, I am not entirely
certain as to where I will be in 5 years. a That’s my honest answer. I am
not really sure what direction I want to go at this moment. I’m certain
its not in psychology. But I sure it will be something good.
• Which of the programmatic course themes is most relevant to
your career or goals for personal growth?
o a a Self-care
o a a Social justice
o a Emotional intelligence
o a a Career connections
o a a Ethics
I’m going to go with emotional intelligence. I see emotional
intelligence as learning about me. I really like getting to know me. I’m
different. I have strong points and week points. I know how I learn
best. I know what situations and environments bring out the best in
me and what situations are a challenge. I know what I require to be
my best and I aim for that. I know a how much I can take before I get
overwhelmed and what I need to do to a keep myself balanced.
Next, share one picture (or any media, e.g., meme, gif, image) that
represents you and what you stand for. Include a brief description
explaining why you chose that picture.
This is me at the beginning of this semester. This shows my general
attitude towards life. My kidney was in really bad shape, I had started
the semester already falling behind and everything was just a big
challenging situation. But I stayed positive! And look at me now! I
learned that I am good at facing challenges and I can literally write
entire essays from my tiny little cellphone!
