RE: Perry’s Printing Social Responsibility
A. Corporate social responsibility is how businesses hold themselves
accountable for their communities' well-being through a commitment to
utilizing environmental and socially responsible resources. These actions
feed into public perception, investor relations, and business success
(Reckmann, 2022). Perry’s Printing is currently operating under
preconventional theories that social responsibility will decrease profits due
to the need to spend additional money on green resources. This attitude
could be damaging to the company going forward, especially if the
competition is already advertising their involvement in being a lean and
green company. Perry’s Printing needs to move onto a more conventional
level of reasoning by doing what is considered a moral obligation by society
and embracing the lean and green philosophy, which the company has
already largely done without the CEO noticing (The Saylor Foundation,
2014).
B. Perry’s Printing should respond to the competition, however, not right
away. A response by Perry’s Printing right now might appear as a “hey look
at us we do it too” reaction to Donovan’s Lean and Green statement.
Perry’s is already operating with similar green initiatives as Donovan’s with
the exception of the automatic ink dispensers which are budgeted for
purchase next year. Perry’s should look into purchasing these printers
sooner if possible and once everything is online then release their own
statement on corporate social responsibility and revise their strategic plan
to include additional social responsibility initiatives such as community
outreach programs.
C. Sustainability can still be used as a strategy even if everyone else is also
using it, the goal is to get to a zero environmental impact which has yet to
be reached by most organizations. That still leaves enough differentiation
to remain competitive in your industry, competition leads to innovation and
innovation is needed if the goal is zero environmental impact. Sustainability
also does not only apply to zero emissions and waste but also to
strengthening community relations through outreach programs and
consuming and supporting local goods and services which provides enough
differentiation to still remain competitive (Czinkota, 2013).
