A. ISSUES WITH THE CURRENT STRATEGY
There are a few things wrong with the current strategy. The first thing
wrong is the lack of an articulated plan. An articulated strategic plan should
state where the company is going and why. (Olsen, 1m 20sec) The plan
provided does not provide where the company is going in the future. It
simply state what the company does on a day-to-day basis. Another issue is
that these strategy statements do not answer the four key questions to a
strategy. c The questions are: where do we compete; what unique value do
we bring; what resources or capabilities do we utilize; and how do we
sustain unique value? (Kryscynski, 3m 35 sec)
B. GOOD ASPECTS OF CURRENT STRATEGY
One of the good parts of the current strategic plan is the internal
examination and environmental impacts on the company. Statement three
talks about how the COVID pandemic has affected the business and how
the business will overcome this event. Managers must constantly look at
these internal and external environments and must monitor the changes in
the business processes. (Saylor, pg 33 para. 2)
C. STRATEGY SUSTAINABILITY
The current strategic plan will not enable the sustainability of the current
competitive advantage. There are companies like Discount Tire that have
grown exponentially over a relatively short amount of time and could take
the advantage. c The strategic plan must show how Paul’s Discount Tires will
continue to be the number one source for tires and repairs in this area and
how the company will grow to compete with large corporations like
Discount Tire.
D. IMPROVING ON CURRENT STRATEGY
One thing the company could do to improve on this strategy is to create a
vision of what the company would like to do in the future. c This is a tool
that Jack Welch, former CEO of General Electric, believes is key to inspiring
employees of an organization. (Saylor, pg 40 para 2)
