A. How could Jeff's attitude toward social responsibility impact Perry's
strategy? Justify your rationale with support from course materials.
From this week’s readings, of Kohlberg’s six stages of moral development it
seems as though Jeff is in stage three. This stage is where he is starting to
feel as though he is being pressured to socially act based on Donovan’s
current release of information in order to stay competitive in the market
(UMGC, 2022, pg. 322, para. 3). Jumping to stage five, it would be in Jeff’s
best interest to take a variety of different viewpoints on the topic in order
to make a well-rounded decision. Moving into stage six Jeff would then be
able to make the best ethical decision for the greatest number of people
including the company. Jeff should respect Donovan’s competitive move
and lean towards focusing on the Perry’s company values in continuing to
provide the quality products that they have been producing, while
strategically planning improvements over time.
B. Should Perry's Printing respond to this new strategic plan published by
their competitor? Why or why not? Justify your opinion with support
from course materials.
Perry’s Printing should not make a statement in regards to Donovan’s
release of new lean green strategy. If Jeff decides to respond in a manner
that is trying to “out do” the competition, it could be perceived as
disingenuous by the company’s consumers. Perry’s should stick to its
values and simply expand on them verses changing the strategy all around
what a competitor is doing. Moving forward after establishing that there
could be a strategical problem, the next steps would be to make a criterion
for decision making, choose the best option with back up options
established, evaluate those alternative routes in choosing the best option,
apply the decisions made, and evaluate how effective the implementation
is (UMGC, 2022, pg. 332).
C. Porter identified one of the most commonly accepted definitions of
strategy as "choosing a unique and valuable position, rooted in systems
of activities that are difficult to match." In other words, differentiation is
the key to strategy. If all competitors are choosing sustainability as part
of their processes, can sustainability really be a strategy? Support your
opinion with course materials.
It is clear that Donovan’s is taking advantage of a differentiation strategical
approach by explaining the value of their strategy to their customers.
Sustainability could be a vital aspect to a business strategy, especially in
terms of striving to be environmentally sustainable. Since Perry’s already
has the majority of equipment that Donovan’s has released for their lean
green plan, Perry’s should focus on scanning the company or
improvements on recycling methods, further pollution prevention, and
continuing to generate innovative environmentally friendly sources of
energy (UMGC, 2022, pg. 326, para. 3).
