A. How could Jeff's attitude toward social responsibility impact Perry's
strategy? Justify your rationale with support from course materials.
Jeff's attitude in regards to the implantation of a new process to better the
business impact on social responsibility would ascertain the social strategy
and would allow Perrys strategy to be impacted in a positive way,
becoming a sustainable business that aims to reduce waste and positively
impact the environment helps gain a competitive advantage for Perrys
printing. Reducing waste would portray an image for this company that
would further help gain consumers and help build an image that this
company is interested in being the best environmentally company they can
be. Although this new process would be more expensive in the beginning
because of the new technologies needed it in the end would help gain
consumers and adhere to their values which in turn leads to more revenue
and higher profits.
B. Should Perry's Printing respond to this new strategic plan published by
their competitor? Why or why not? Justify your opinion with support
from course materials.
It would be in the best interest for Perry to respond to this new strategic
plan to show consumers they are also interested in becoming a sustainable
company, showing that they are also along with the new effort to be
environmentally friendly retracts the competitive advantage that the other
company may have gained with their post. Doing this response will allow
them to retain existing costumers while also adding new customers who
have a deep belief in environmentally sustainable companies, if they were
to wait and not adhere to this new movement this company would risk the
loss of business and this in the end may be more costly than purchasing
the equipment that's needed to become more sustainable. Along with
direct consumer lost would come opportunity cost as well as people would
leave them and go to a direct competitor.
C. Porter identified one of the most commonly accepted definitions of
strategy as "choosing a unique and valuable position, rooted in systems
of activities that are difficult to match." In other words, differentiation is
the key to strategy. If all competitors are choosing sustainability as part
of their processes, can sustainability really be a strategy? Support your
opinion with course materials.
Yes, sustainability can be a strategy. Sustainability may not be the main
function of a strategy it is more of a complementary function it is still a key
aspect. Building Sustainable procedures will allow a company to form a
strategic plan and strategic gain that gives them a competitive advantage
over competitors, doing so will make it difficult for competitors match
them and compete with them.
