"The best-performing companies worry less about performance and
more about their organizational capabilities" (Bititci, 2015).
I agree with this statement until a certain point. I guess this statement
wants to emphasize the importance of all the other variables that
might affect their success and performance. But, I would like to see
the message of the statement as if you want to perform at your best
capacity you must pay attention to the different variables that affect
the performance of you organization, once you identify those
variables and develop strategies to mitigate their effect you will find
that focusing on performance is not the only way to achieve success.
I do think that has a direct effect on the capabilities and performance
of an organization. For example, an organization that promotes
teamwork and professional development has a higher probability of
getting better results from the work performed by its employees. a
This kind of culture and environment, makes sure that the people
within the organization are properly trained on their technical skills as
well as their behavioral skills. A culture like this has better perspective
of what their employees need and how giving this benefits and
promoting this mindset might affect the performance of the company.
Company A is a great company with an amazing development
opportunity. The issue with this company is that they basically are
stuck on the technology and salary compensation to its employees.
For a brand that specializes on luxury flights, they are pretty behind
on technology and right now it does no seems like they have enough
funds to start a strategy to improve that area. Along with the
technology we have the situation with the salary competitiveness and
employee retention. It was stated on the interview that a "...we have
not been keeping up on our compensation levels, and this may make
recruitment difficult soon”. That in part explains the high turnover
rate they have been experiencing.
On the other hand we have Company B. This company has a lot of
potential as well but I feel that they do not have a structured culture.
Using the interviews as a reference, we can perceive that the
personnel are not satisfied at its fullest and the morale to perform any
work is very low. Also, they have a new president that is still learning
about the company and the services it provides, since her previous
experience is in high tech and not in commercial aviation. Even
though she is not an expert in this market she has a lot of motivation
and ideas to improve the company as a whole and create a structured
culture that goes well with the improvements to be made. I think if
she is capable of doing that, Company B would get better and
increase the revenue decline they have been getting.
