Learning Objectives
By the end of this module, you will meet these learning objectives:
Determine appropriate strategies and processes for
managing innovation
Compare processes for managing innovation
Describe the importance of cross-functional teams in
innovative organizations
Module Overview
Any change management effort is laden with uncertainties. Innovation
management tries to convert that uncertainty at the outset of a
process to something closer to a calculated risk. Though it does not
ensure a guarantee of success, there is an attempt to review the
options and assign some probabilities as to the chances of a successful
outcome. When venture capitalists assess a business proposal, they
also use certain criteria to evaluate the proposal and corresponding
risks.
Just as innovation must be supported by organizational factors, new
product and service development requires specific needs to be
addressed. The needs require much more than the application of a set
of tools and techniques. They require an appropriate organization to
support innovation and an explicit process to manage development.
This module explores the concepts required for planning under
uncertainty and planning for new product development.
