Personal Development Plan
“S” Specific
In the Leadership Practice Inventory survey, I scored less on Model the Way with 36,
putting me in the 10th percentile range. My personal development goal is to raise my score on
this survey and place myself in the 90th percentile. This goal is to become a leader who can
clarify his value and set an example for his constituent. In order to excel as a leader, I must
practice the skills needed to model the way. Objectives needed for this are finding my voice and
aligning my values with my constituents’ values. I also need to put mouth to foot and set an
example. Once I identify the values, I will make a daily effort to reaffirm those values through
physical actions and create creditability with my team.
“M” Measurable
I would measure my goals by performing the Leadership Practice Inventory survey
quarterly. I must honestly answer the survey questions and evaluate where I belong on the
Leadership Practice Inventory ranking. I want a 20 percentile or more increase in the survey
every quarter. To keep myself on track, I will devise a plan to get feedback from my constituent
through a 360-feedback Survey. A 360-feedback Survey will allow my constituent to provide
feedback about my performance anonymously. I intend to take those feedback and adjust if
needed to keep myself on the right trajectory.
“A” Achievable
The tools needed to achieve these goals are proper documentation and graphs to track my
progress. I will also need to reaffirm my values daily to ensure they are clear to myself and my
team. The 360 feedback survey needs questions that will solicit meaningful answers toward
understanding where I stand with my team. To succeed in these goals, my constituent and my
supervisor will need to be involved in my development plan.
“R” Relevant
As the director of leadership and learning, I am tasked to create an adaptive leadership
toolkit. To complete this, I need to understand what makes an exceptional leader. Improving my
score will give me in-depth knowledge of creating a voice for myself. Creating this voice will let
my team understand what I stand for and what I value. Having this skill will allow me to align
my values with my constituents. It has been stated that leaders whose values are clear to their
constituents perform better than those whose values are not (Kouzes & Posner, 2021).
“T” Time-Bound
In one fiscal year, the score in the section of Model the way, under the Leadership
Practice Inventory survey, will be in the 90 percentiles. For every quarter, the Leadership
Practice Inventory survey needs to show a 20 percentile increase from its last milestone to meet
my goals.
