Recognize how to communicate a vision in a way that
motivates others to act
Identify criteria and metrics for measuring success
Articulate roles, responsibilities, and ownership for
everyone affected by a change initiative
Determine the communication needs of internal and
external audiences
Apply a process for leading change
Module Overview
Communication is the building block of successful organizations. It is
the imperative component that helps an organization to strive and
grow. Successful organizational communication promotes motivation
by informing and clarifying for the employees the task to be done and
boosts employee morale, satisfaction, and engagement. It also helps
employees understand the terms and conditions of their employment
and drives their commitment and loyalty. Most importantly, successful
organizational communication help employees improve processes and
procedures and ultimately creates greater efficiencies and reduces
costs. From the perspective of a leader, successful communication can
help organizational leaders to lead, rationalize, solve problems, manage
conflict, and gain compliance. It is the only way leaders can pass on
their vision to others.
Think about how communication takes place in organizations such as
Amazon. Amazon conveys its internal communication in targeted,
small-sized bites instead of long, winding email chains. The
communication team at Amazon knows that most people will stop
reading any message after a little more than 100 words. As an end
result, employees get only the information they need, which means
they are more likely to read, understand, and act on the information
that comes their way.
In this module, as a leader, you will recognize how you can
communicate your vision not only to inform your stakeholders but also
to motivate them, along with determining the communication needs
for internal and external audiences. From this week’s resource, you will
also learn the steps necessary for the successful transformation of an
organization. At the end of this week, you will submit your project.
This project is focused on crafting the communication strategy, which
is a critical component in implementing the adaptive leadership toolkit
across your organization.
