Learning Objectives
By the end of this module, you will meet these learning objectives:
Evaluate personal strengths and liabilities as a leader
Apply SMART goal setting to develop personal
development plan
Assess needs, resources, and opportunities
Interpret quantitative and qualitative data aggregated
from multiple sources
Module Overview
The first five modules of our course focused primarily on identifying,
codifying, and understanding your personal leadership strengths and
weaknesses, as understanding is a key first step in one’s personal
development journey. We continue this process in Module Six via your
completion of a personal development plan for the course project
using the SMART goal-setting process. You will also share the
leadership skills and behaviors you have chosen to include in the
adaptive leadership toolkit with your classmates, and they in turn will
share their choices with you. This collaborative sharing of ideas brings
a high degree of collaboration and diversity of thought into the design
of every learner’s adaptive leadership toolkit, reinforcing the value of
collaborative teams.
Module Six also shifts focus from developing your personal leadership
attributes to developing the leadership abilities of your team. The best
leaders understand the exponential effect of developing the leadership
skills of their team, as doing so multiplies the positive impact from one
leader to multiple leaders, greatly accelerating and transforming their
organization’s performance.
This point is reinforced in our additional reading assignments for this
week. This journal article emphasizes that even though time,
circumstances, and technology change, certain key principles of
leadership are constant, standing the test of time.
In this module, you will create a personal development plan,
participate in a discussion on the skills and behaviors you selected
for your adaptive leadership toolkit, and complete the Emotional
Intelligence badge.
