The tool that I chose to highlight is a cyber security tool used in ethical
hacking called John the Ripper. This tool is a brute force style password
cracker. It is used to test the password strength by detecting what type of
encryption is used for the password and then proceeds to decipher the
password using various algorithms. Some of the bonuses of this tool are the
fact that it is open source and is available to be used on multiple platforms
such as Windows, Android, Linux, and Mac. If I personally were to use it, I
could test the passwords used for my own devices. John the Ripper would
typically be used for people that are dealing with cyber security and
attempting to penetration test the password strength of an operating system.$
