The government is involved in health care in many ways such as regulator, purchaser of
care, sponsor of applied research, demonstrations, and education and training programs
for health care professionals Clinical Guidelines: Potential Benefits, Limitations, and
Harms of Clinical Guidelines - PMC, n.d.). The government should also be in a central
position to issue physician practice guidelines based on cost efficiency. For cost efficiency
specifically, “Improving access to healthcare is not just a matter of making it more
affordable;services—including specialized services—are often not available within a
person’s geographic area, or do not offer culturally responsive care, or are available only
after delays.” (Strategic Goal 1 | HHS.Gov, 2015). The U.S. department of health is
working on expanding the healthcare workforce. The more access to healthcare, the lesser
the cost for some individuals such as those who live in rural areas. Logically thinking, if
all physicians work under the same guidelines and deliver the same quality of healthcare
across the board, the cost of health care be standardized.
