Overview: Crical thinking is a habit of mind characterized by the comprehensive exploraon of issues, ideas, arfacts, and events before
accepting or formulang an opinion or conclusion. Case studies are meant to connect real-world scenarios with theoretical teachings. Students
are expected to test assumpons and nd creative ways to consider all the facets contribung to analysis of the case.
Prompt: To begin, r ead the case study: Kleiner-Perkins and Genentech (2012) When Venture Capital Met Science.
Once u have reviewed the case studyyo and researched the main points, write a paper that addresses the following:
Summarize the scenario in which you idenfy the key points, the stakeholders, seing, and situaon.
Discuss the specic issue and secondary issues, and explain how they relate. Explain your reasoning and support your analysis with
research from journal arcles.
Describe a soluon to address the issues, explaining who should be involved in the soluon, and idenfying strengths and weaknesses of
the soluon. Be sure to analyze your own assumpons, and others’ assumpons, when considering the strengths and weaknesses of the
soluon.
Describe at least two alternave soluons to the issues, and analyze their pros and cons. Consider why the soluons would or would not
be eective, and the assumpons that are made in reference to the soluons.
Explain how to evaluate the eecveness of the main proposed soluon, once implemented, and discuss the implicaons of the
soluon.
Guidelines for Submission: Your paper must include a tle page, 2-4 pages of wring, and a reference list. Double-space, using Times New
