The best practice that is most essential for ensuring an organization's
capital plan is successful is developing an interim life safety plan that
meets the needs of the facility. Interim life safety measures (ILSM) is a
program that provides detailed information in case an issue were to
arrive. In order to create a safe building environment one must study
the egress, stairs, fire detection devices and general occupancy (Mills,
1994). This helps detect if a building design and integrity is strong to
hold occupants. It also helps by planning for any unforeseen events,
such as a fire, that could occur in the facility. Having a safety plan for
the facility provides safe designated areas that includes the
necessities, entrances and pathways for people to follow, which
lowers the risk of providing quality care and eventually lowers the
cost of healthcare. ILSM helps facilities by having a back up plan in
place for unseen expenses. It helps recognize additional issues that
could arise and plan for it ahead of time (Nowick, 2022).
