The disease Aortic Aneurysm, which isaballoon-like bulge in the
aorta, this is the large artery that carries blood from the heart through
the chest and torso. Aortic valve disease is a condition in which the
valve between the main pumping chamber of your heart (left ventricle)
and the main artery to your body (aorta) doesn't work properly. Aortic
valve disease may be a condition present at birth (congenital heart
disease), or it may result from other causes Aortic aneurysms can
dissect or potentially fatal if they rupture. The force of blood pumping
can split the layers of the artery wall, allowing blood to leak in between
them. How does the disease affect the cardiovascular and
hematopoietic body systems in particular? An abnormal aneurysm
causes swelling or bulge in the wall of a blood vessel, such as an
artery. Aneurysms can occur anywhere throughout the circulatory
system, commonly developing along the aorta (the body’s main artery
that runs the length of the trunk) and in the blood vessels of the brain.
How is the disease classified? Aortic aneurysms are classified by their
location on the aorta. Anaortic rootaneurysm, or aneurysm of the
sinus. Thoracic aortic aneurysms are found within the chest; these are
further classified as ascending, aortic arch, or descending aneurysms.
The symptoms and signscould include:
Sudden, extreme headache (often described as well beyond any
other kind of headache pain)
Nausea and/or vomiting
Light sensitivity and/or vision problems
Confusion
Drooping eyelid
Stiff neck
Seizure
Loss of consciousness
An aneurysm is diagnosed using a number of tests including:
physical examination
x-rays
ultrasound scans
computed tomography (CT) scans or CT angiograms
magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or MR angiograms
digital subtraction angiograms
examination of cerebrospinal fluid (for a diagnosis of a
subarachnoid hemorrhage).
